Food is known to be one of the three basic necessities of life. Yet, according to the Global Hunger Index, hunger remains a serious threat in India. Although India is primarily an agricultural state, 15.3% of our vast population is undernourished. To combat this issue, we need non-exploitative, climate-compliant agriculture and resilient food systems. Sustainable Development Goal 2, “Zero Hunger”, calls on every participant in the food industry to help end hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture. To do this, we need to answer a few key questions:
  • How can our food systems, from production and processing to consumption, be more plentiful and nutritional?
  • Can tracing our steps back toward traditional crops and farming techniques improve crop yields?
  • How can emerging technology in food science help achieve the 2030 goals?
  • How can public and private sector policies support small scale farmers and cottage food operations?

Can we harness the reach of cloud kitchens to boost food distribution initiatives?
