About Event

The region that encompasses the Himalaya mountain range and the Tibetan Plateau is widely known as the Third Pole because its ice fields contain the largest reserve of fresh water outside the polar regions. This region is the source of the 10 major river systems that provide irrigation, power and drinking water for over 1.3 billion people in Asia – nearly 20% of the world’s population.

Join us for a weekend of discussion and insight about this oftern overlooked Third Pole.

  • How will climate change affect the massive water resources stored in the Hymalayan glaciers?
  • Will disruption of the region's water supply cause geopolitical conflict?
  • What will the ecological and agricultural ramifications of the disruption of the Himalayan glaciers be?

Listen to experts on each of these topics and join the conversation, connect with thought leaders in ecology, Asian geoploitics, migration and economics and learn more about our planet's Third Pole.
